Newborn + Maternity Sessions

For me, family photography is an art form as well as a tangible way to honor and preserve some of the most precious moments of our lives. The season of bringing new life in to this world is unique, it is physically and emotionally demanding to the point that sometimes we can hardly manage and yet despite its intensity we cherish it and sometimes even long for it once it has passed. As a mother of three, I want to honor mothers in their hard work and I feel passionate about capturing these moments in a way that is both honest and beautiful. At once both raw and refined. I'm honored to be invited in to your home and your story.

Newborn + Maternity Sessions have  become my most favorite. I know deeply from my own personal experience that the value of these photos only deepens over time. I love being able to create those images for families like yours.

Maternity Session Tips

Think of it as a celebration.

Show off that beautiful belly!

The journey to motherhood is unique to every woman, it is layered and complex and I don't want to minimize that. With my first baby I didn't want to have my photo taken at all because I was so uncomfortable in my changing body and was grappling with the life change to come. The result is that I don't have a single photo of myself during that pregnancy, and I deeply regret that. With my next two babies I made sure to document it well, both with a professional maternity session and plenty of casual shots on my phone. If I could give advice to any pregnant mama now, it would be to honor and celebrate your body for what it is accomplishing, to take the photos for your future self and to celebrate this amazing work you're doing bringing new life in to the world.

When it comes to maternity sessions we talk about the pregnant mama the most, for obvious reasons! BUT just to be clear, your partner and any other children you may have are totally welcome to be  a part of this session -if that is what you want-! You may choose to have a solo shoot, a shoot with just you and your partner OR a whole family shoot for your maternity session. If you want to chat about it more and decide what is the best fit for you,  feel free to reach out to me.

When choosing an outfit, I recommend something that will cling to your body to show off your belly. I also love it when moms are comfortable wearing a bra or unbuttoning their top to show some skin as well.
As far as timing goes, I think its best to wait until later in the third trimester when you most definitely will have a big beautiful belly.
You don't want to be too early but you also want to still be comfortable and mobile. 32-35 weeks seems like the sweet spot.

Your whole family is welcome.

Engagement Tips

all too often, couples worry about inconveniencing people on their wedding day. I think it’s great to be a caring person, but...this is your wedding day. I believe that we can go to epic locations (they're everywhere!) and do it in such a way that people aren't waiting around for hours while we're out strolling around on mountaintops (see tip #1)

I am more than happy to help brainstorm ideas to make your session perfect! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Booking information

LET's do this

1. Email me: Let me know when you are thinking about wanting your photos taken. Let me know what you have in mind.

2. Sign a contract agreement.

3. Pay the retainer fee.

And Voila! It's official! Let's go document your sweet fam!

It can be helpful to feed the baby right before the shoot is scheduled to start, change their diaper and choose a time of day that they are typically relaxed. I also recommend having the room temperature a little on the warm side in hopes that it will help the baby still feel cozy when they are being put down for a few of the photos.

Come along on my personal adventures, big and small.

My most common recommendation is for a newborn session to be 2-4 weeks after the baby is born if you want them to still be in the tiny infant stage. However, if you just want/need more time that is absolutely fine! We will check in when you get home and see how you feel.

I believe in making things as easy as possible for new parents. Less packing up and leaving the house, more cocooning, resting, and recovery. You do not need to clean up, we can move things around when I get there if needed...leave it to me to find the perfect window light for these photos!

Some items I commonly use are a breastfeeding pillow, cute/favorite blankets and swaddles. We often just use one or two rooms in the house first looking for the best window light, and then for the place where you hold the baby - with a comfortable chair or couch to sit on!

I love a good diaper shot for newborns, also a swaddle and a simple onesie that fits their tiny body snugly are all great options. Accessories like a cute hat or headband are also fun! Having a few outfits chosen is a good idea, we will likely use 2-3 options! For you, wear something cozy and comfortable.
